"Thiruparamkundram" Lord Muruga Temple
This is one of the "SIX ABODES"(Arupadi veedi -- Six divine places) of Lord Muruga. This temple also known as "Then kayilayayam" (Southern kailash) was worshipped by Chera, Chola and Pandya rulers. The traditional legend is that Lord Murugan married Deivanai at Thiruparankundram Murugan Temple. According to "Sathyagiri Mahatmiam puranam", King Harichandran reached Thirupparankundram hillcock known as Sathiya Giri and worshipped lord Shiva and attained the beneifits of truth. When he came to know of the special features of God Sathyagirishwarar, he constructed a temple complete with Praharams, walls, Gopurams and steps. According to temple lores, Lord Muruga at the end of Soorasamharam stayed here, along with his soldiers. As a gift for victory, Lord Indira married his daughter Deivanai to Muruga. To commemorate this event, Lord Muruga is worshipped as the presiding deity of this temple.
The Beautiful scenery of the temple over middle of the hill is mind blowing and peaceful. Climbing on the steps of the temple is a calm and divine experience. In between the long steps, we can see many small temples and rest places. After all, when we reach the temple its a divine experience.
