Kanniya Kumari Temple -- "Goddess Parvathi As Young Girl"
The tip or toe of India begins from the District Kanniya kumari, also known as "The Granary of Travancore". The very name came because of the Goddess whose name is Kanniyakumari(Kanniya -- Girl not yet married, Kumari -- the girl of divinity).Legend has it that the Goddess Parvati in one of her incarnations as Devi Kanniya did penance on one of the rocks of this land's end to obtain the hand of Lord Shiva. It is one of the famous tourists destinations in which there are many special importance.
1. Bounded by Tirunelveli district in the north and northeast, by Kerala state in the northwest and confluence of Arabian Sea and Indian Ocean in the west and south.
2. where the Arabian Sea, the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal meet, lies Kannyakumari, an important pilgrim centre. Kannyakumari is famous for its beach and the spectacular sunrises and sunsets, especially on full moon days.
3. MULTI-COLORED sand is a very special. This stories back when Goddess Parvathi was waiting for Lord Shiva to get married. But Lord Shiva did not come at the proper time by delaying time. So, Parvathi got angry and poured the color powders and paints. From then the sand became multi colored.
4. It is a place where PITRU and MATRU thirta is allowed.
PRIME ATTRACTION
1. Swami Vivekananda Rock Memorial: Once in 1892, Swami Vivekannda came here and swam into the sea and reached a rock place. There he spent one whole night and did meditation. The motto was to serve the motherland by spreading VEDANTA. After that there a MANDAP(a Rock Memorial) was made and it acts as an attractive tourists destination.
2. Thiruvalluvar Statue: Saint Thiruvalluvar, a 1st centuary saint whoes gigantic statue has been established some how far into the sea. Going to these statues and Rock Memorial through boat is a adventurous journey.
