Maduri "Meenakshi Sundareshwar Temple"

Madurai is one of the most sacred temple towns of India. The presence of Meenakshi Temple is the essence of Maduri city and even Tamil Nadu too. The Temple was dedicated to Mother Goddess Meenakshi(Parvathi) who took birth as daughter to Malayathvaja Pandya King. She invaded many kingdoms and was ruling them. At the proper time to both get married to Meenakshi and kill a demon, Lord Shiva appeared on the earth and propsed to Meenakshi and the marriage was grand celebration on the earth. Lord married Meenakshi and killed the demon. To their marriage Lord Vishnu who is the brother of meenakshi came from Vikunda and he was treated by theives(kallars). From then Lord Vishnu is also regarded as Kallalgar. In order to represent this grand celebration, yearly once the celebration " CHITHIRI THIRUVILA" is conducted.

Modern History

1. Here the historical events of SANGAM LITERATURES were presided and Lord Shiva himself came to the court of the Pandya kingdom.

2. The temple has gigantic 4 way structure from where we can reach all the 4 sides of the city.

3. Annual "KALYANA URCHAVA" is grand festival in this temple.

4. The city is located near to the river VAIKAI the great historical important river in Indian history.

5. THE 1000 PILLERED COURT and various different types of Lingas are more high lighted specials.

6. The LOTUS TABNK is one more grand special where the historical event NAKIRA and LORD SHIVA argument on the poem that cleared the doubt of Pandya king.

7. Structure of the temple is now a days to praised a lot due to its well defined plan of construction and strong and beautiful sculptures.
